How We Manage Investment Accounts For Churches

Funds are administered according to the investment guidelines set forth by the Investment Committee of the Board of Directors, and in accordance with the Social Principles of the United Methodist Church.  The common funds are organized into three types of funds:  Equities Fund (emphasizes growth), Balanced Fund (emphasizes growth plus income) and Income Fund (emphasizes income over growth).

Common funds are invested only in publicly traded securities and investment grade bonds.  The Foundation maintains a well-diversified portfolio that includes securities that are traded on all major exchanges.  Diversification is emphasized.  The Board of Directors provides oversight, and the investment committee of the Board of Directors meets quarterly with an independent performance review manager from SmithBarney Citigroup to evaluate fund performance.  The Foundation provides an accounting of transactions with respect to each account invested in its common funds on a periodic basis, but in no event less than annually.
