Sinclair Scholarship Guidelines

The Aleen C. and Carson F. Sinclair Scholarship seeks to foster academic and spiritual growth for new generations of church leaders by helping high-potential United Methodist students attain a four-year undergraduate degree at a Florida or United Methodist college or university. The scholarship is awarded annually, based on academic achievement, church involvement and community service, to one or more incoming first-year students. The scholarship is renewable for up to four years.

Eligibility

  • Must be a full-time student in top 10% of high school graduating class.
  • Must have and maintain a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
  • Must be a full and active member of the United Methodist Church, in Florida, for at least one year prior to scholarship application, and remain active in church activities as a scholarship recipient. (On occasion, Sinclair Scholarship recipients may be asked to attend and be recognized at church-related events within the Florida Conference of the United Methodist Church.)
  • For initial consideration, applicants must be admitted to a Florida or United Methodist college or university. For annual renewal of the scholarship, students must be making adequate progress toward a Bachelor’s degree and continue to be an active church and community leader.
  • Candidate must provide three references showing involvement and/or leadership in church, school and community activities. One letter should be from the applicant’s senior or associate pastor or youth director at the applicant’s home church.

  • Home address, phone number and email address
  • Applicable family and financial information
  • Name of the college or university you plan to attend
  • Home church name, address and telephone number
  • The three letters of reference, including representation from home church
  • An essay describing your church, community and school leadership and involvement; your educational plans; and your goals.
  • A sealed transcript of your high school grades.
